Day 1...

We flew into Kathmandu, Nepal (Tribhuvan International Airport) today (Tuesday, Nov. 15). One thing to remember when entering Nepal is to make sure you purchase the correct visa based on your intended length of stay (15 or 30 days). If you happen to accidentally purchase the incorrect visa, say, a 15-day visa for a 20-day visit, then make sure you have an extra 40 USD with you as you leave the country; you'll need to make this extra payment before you'll be allowed to leave! Chalk this experience up to another mistake (inadvertent oversight) by a field worker rookie.

Due to our tight schedule (we drive to the field site tomorrow), after we checked into our hotel, the Hotel Tibet in Lazimpat, we immediately ventured out to stock up on some last minute supplies (work-related and personal). It is best to purchase these supplies in Kathmandu as it's adviseable not to bring them with you in your checked luggage, for example, bottles of bleach; a 10% bleach solution is used to decontaminate all the blood collection/processing supplies.
